Installation notes on Viennacompare VERSION 2 --------------------------------------------- There are three files necessary for installation of this program. comparevienna.cab setup.exe setup.lst This file is called vcomp_2_readme.txt Running the setup.exe program is enough. Simply follow the instructions, do not change any parameters during installation (ie choose default locations...). This program should install and run without any problems on: Win 98 SE (has been verified long ago) Win 2000 (has been verified on 23/4/2002) Win XP (has not been verified) Win ME (has not been verified) **** You must create a "C:\vienna" directory MANUALLY. Otherwise the program will abort with an error. Will be corrected later on. ***** In order to RUN the program under 2000/XP you will have to be power user. In order to INSTALL the program, you have to be administrator. In the future, MINOR UPDATES will be done by placing only the compiled VIENNACOMPARE.EXE on the website. To use this latest version, you'll have to replace this file on your computer. So, for minor updates, do NOT uninstall the program. MAJOR UPDATES will be done by replacing the complete distribution. To install a major update, you'll have to uninstall the previous one. What's new in VERSION 2 ----------------------- - Sorting a file is done by clicking on the corresponding column. - Menus have been introduced. - Tolerances are introduced for four search criteria. Enabling all tolerances is NOT RECOMMENDED because it will greatly increase the time needed for comparison. - A cancel button during comparison is introduced. Pushing it will abort comparison. - Manual comparison has to be toggled on/off. If manual is on, automatic is impossible. - A dialog box with general parameters has been introduced. - Corrections according to the previous brussels have been introduced. - Program loads database immediately after opening => you can continue on previous files without reloading them. - Program gives much more feedback on progress. You can literally see what's happening. - A number of bugs has been corrected. ------------------------------- Peter Van Huffel 24/2/2002
